A couple of years ago few songwriting friends and I got together to create a small, local songwriting group. All of us had drifted away from writing songs to varying extents, and we hoped that this group would provide us all with a bit of inspiration to keep on making music. It worked. Two years later we are still all together and writing.

This song is one that I wrote back in 2022, shortly after the group started. Recently, I thought I'd take my rough draft of it and turn it into something a bit more substantial. This is the end result. I'm singing and Synth V's Hayden is helping with harmony.

♫ Till The End Of Time
(lyrics on Soundcloud)

Please feel free to comment on any aspect of the song and its production.

Thanks for having a listen smile

Noel,

This is an absolutely beautiful love song... One of the best ballads I have heard in years.

Your vocal is superb and the production is perfect. Love these backing tracks, especially what you have done with the MIDI here.

Awesome all around - great to hear you with a new song!

Cool melody --such a good write, Noel. Beautiful song, and I really like your vocals. Quite the range, and I bet you could've taken Hayden's part too. Really good and tight harmony. I really enjoy the sentiment you bring to it all. Well done!

Enjoy whatever happens!

What a beautiful and positive song! A love story that runs through universe and time, "We’re babes in the arms of come what may" and many other rousing lines.

Love to hear your voice and Hayden supports perfectly, those long high notes are shivering. The chorus melody has classic feel.

The band is very pleasant, MIDI tracks support warmly and I really enjoy how all those instruments blend into the the colored tapestry of sound, reminding me of those many lives in the story.

Hi Bob.

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen and to comment smile I'm relieved to read that everything works for you as I've spent the last couple of weeks tweaking things and trying different approaches. Honestly, the mixing was becoming a nightmare for me. In the end, I just took a deep breath and said to myself, "It's now or never!" and posted.

All the very best.

Noel,

Beautiful.
An interesting write. Not "ordinary".
"I was born to love you" - love that one. Simple, strong.

Well sung.
Good mix. Piano sits well.

Enjoyed.
Always great to see you post one, Noel. Been a while...

Noel, SO hard to write an original, old fashion love song, but you've nailed it. Lovely, lovely song. GREAT vocals that make Hayden sound weak, and THAT's hard to do, too. Nicely balanced arrangement that buoys the vocals perfectly. Glad you saved this one from your songwriting group!

BEAUTIFUL!

Janice was crying before the end of the first chorus at the beauty of the lyric and the heavenly sound.
We’re coming up on our anniversary and these lines got to us:

“I’ve always thought it true
I was born to love you”

And then we got to the chorus and WOW.

Hayden’s subtle harmony is so nice with your tender vocal. The piano and mandolin work lovely together and the chimes and the arpeggios were such a perfect accompaniment to the lyric.

Great band, write, mix and arrangement. It sounds excellent on the monitors.

We love it!

Hi, Noel.

You are frighteningly good at writing positive songs. These lyrics are quintessential Noel Adams:

A touch of alliteration, a "feel good" lyric:

Glistening golden hair and your face is like the sun
   Shining bright, warming everyone

You weren't thinking "time to change up the rhythmic pattern a bit" when you wrote this, were you?
With relics from a Celtic shrine that bend heaven’s design

Because you're probably the most analytic writer on this forum, and despite how effortless it all sounds, I know nothing is in your songs that hasn't been thoroughly thought out. smile

But it's not just the lyrics, but it's also the way you sing - shaping each syllable. There's a quality of earnestness in your vocal that's disarming.

Hayden fits in well with you - nice work.

But then, it's all nice work. laugh

Melody, lyrics, vocal performance....everything says 'love'.

I am still in the process of unknotting my tongue from "With relics from a Celtic shrine", though grin

This is ever so beautiful. The lyrics are sublime, and your style of singing (as David Cuny wrote, above) is SO earnest, SO honest ... Hats off to you, sir. I wish I could write a lengthy, detailed review, but a) what would be the point of picking such a song apart, in terms of analysis, technique, etc. etc. etc.? , and b) you've kind of left me speechless, here smile Seriously, well done. Loved it.

Hi Noel, and here I am, finally!

Like-I think- most others here wrote, a beautiful song!
And I always compared your vocals with -the late- Robin Gibb. I still do!
Immediatly when I hear your voice, I must think of his voice.
And I know you don't know him, because you always say that.
It doesn't matter. The song is very nice, lovely to listen to, the lyrics are very good.
Glad you are back,

Hans

Hi Janne.

It's always good to see you. I really appreciate your comment about "a love story that runs through universe and time". In saying that, you have summed up the whole premise with which I approached this song. You are a very perceptive man!

If you're interested, here is the story behind these lyrics...

Just prior to writing this song, I had watched the South Korean drama "Bulgasal: Immortal Soul" on Netflix. It's a very gripping, 16-episode thriller/drama that travels across time. I won't say too much about it as I don't want to spoil anyone's possible viewing experience.

So with this drama fresh in my mind, I thought I'd try and write a song that is more along the lines of a Science-Fiction/Fantasy trilogy (seeing many of the big writers in this genre like to write trilogies). My song's plot is different from the South Korean series but the overarching story in my lyrics definitely reflects my watching experience.

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen. I appreciate your time and your comments.

Hi floyd!

Thanks for dropping by. It's always good to see you smile Thanks for taking time to have a listen, too. The mixing was slow on this one. Even though I play piano, I find mixing it can be tough going sometimes. I think it was compounded by the fact that I'm seriously out of practice, these days! I think it's high time for me to get up and get going again!

Hi Ron!

It's good to see you. Thanks for the visit! I think nearly all my songs sound old-fashioned. I long ago gave up trying to write for anything other than personal pleasure. As a result, I think I've probably insulated myself from today's music, and my musical tastes and musical ideas are from another point in time. That said, I love what I do and I enjoy working towards a finished product. It's a satisfying bonus when other people also enjoy what I've put together.

Thanks again for taking the time!

Hi J&B,

Thank you smile I appreciate your listening and your comments a lot. When I read your first comment, you got me thinking that I might not have taken these lyrics in the best possible direction. I was so focused on creating a Science-Fiction/Fantasy kind of scenario that my mind was closed to other possibilities. I'm seriously glad that you mentioned this because I going to now try and write some lyrics to maintain Janice's experience of the first verse. I'm not sure how it will work out but if I manage to come up with something, you'll be the first to know!

You've got me smiling ear-to-ear here! And I'm excited to see if I can take these lyrics to the next level.

Thank you so much! And I hope the two of you have/had a really wonderful anniversary!

You got me smiling with this comment, David! Thank you smile Life has been a bit tough these last 12 months with secondary prostate cancer showing up last year (I had a prostatectomy in 2017). If ever you need to know anything about radiation therapy or hormone therapy due to prostate cancer, please feel free to ask. I've got quite a lot of experience these days in many areas of urology. Maybe I should put it into a song!

I love alliteration and all the sonic devices I can use! These can really help make a lyric flow very well. Things like assonance, consonance, internal alliteration (that's what I call it, at least) and all the different types of rhyme and rhythm are all on the table when I write lyrics. I don't think I've mentioned this before, but once I get a lyric nearly settled to my liking, I go through the words and look for potential synonyms that might create better sonic links with my existing words.

Actually, I was so focused on writing a lyric that had a Science-fiction/Fantasy feel about it that when I got to verse 2, it occurred to me that I'd better give some kind of reason for my character's ability to reincarnate. I thought about ways of doing this for quite a while. Eventually, I landed on the idea that a form of mystical religion from ages past might be a useful way to do it. I tried various countries and their myths and legends before finally homing in on the Celts. Any upping of the rhythmic pattern is purely coincidental with trying to get a coherent story.

Rightly or wrongly, I cannot stop myself from being analytical. It's the only way I know how to write lyrics. I think I've mentioned this before, but just in case I haven't... Back in the early 2000s, I went to a Pat Pattison seminar and his approach to writing lyrics really clicked with me. I'm a physics/chemistry/mathematics kind of person and as I listened to Pat, I could see how I could approach writing lyrics from an analytical perspective. He gave me tools and insights that allowed me to productively use my science background to create lyrics. These tools also allowed me to analyze the lyrics of famous songs. Up until meeting Pat, I'd tried to write lyrics many times. Every time, though, I couldn't get anywhere. Since then, I've been to many of Pat's seminars and I've done all the exercises in every one of this books. It's been quite an amazing journey of discovery and self-discovery!

I'm really pleased that my singing is okay. I don't see myself as a singer. A few years ago, I simply decided to stop being self-conscious about how I sing and just do the best I can. I adopted the proverbial "I might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb" approach. That was a turning point for me, and it's all due to this forum and the supportive people in it (such as yourself). Software such as Nectar and Ozone also helped.

Thanks for taking the time to be so thorough. I'm sorry if I've over-explained myself. It's early morning, though, and I'm feeling enthusiastically verbose right now!

I appreciate your visit a great deal. Thanks again!

Hi James.

Thank you for visiting the thread smile And thank you for having a listen and writing your thoughts. I sincerely appreciate the smile you brought me as I read them. Trust me, any good singing is purely coincidental. I just try to sing what I hear in my mind when I write the song. Sometimes that seems to work better than other times.

It's always great to see you. I hope things are travelling well for you.

Hi David,

Thanks for having a listen. I really appreciate you comments. I'm very much out of practice at putting songs together these days. I really glad that this one came together eventually. It took a while! I think the moral of the story is that I shouldn't leave it so long between posting songs. I need to be more productive and get back into the rhythm of writing, arranging, producing and posting!

Thanks again for taking the time.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
