When I retired in 2016 I started to make music again for my passtime. I studied composing and learned, that you can make a song with just two chords. I had to try. Please feel free to listen for free how it came out. It takes only 2 minutes and 13 seconds.

I first recorded and published this in 2017. I made today 20th April 2024 a remix.
I sing and play the 12 stringed guitar and plectrum banjo. I produced this with Band in a Box and Reaper at my home in Helsinki, Finland.

Arri, sounds like you had a lot of fun with this one, I enjoyed my listen! Love the tone you captured on your 12-string. The jazzy violin at the end was cool, too. Yes, two chords are more than enough!

Love it! Yes, you definitely can write a song using only 2 chords and yours is a corker, both lyrically and with added instrumentation. Way back in 1969 when I was 18 and in my 2nd band in which we only played our own material I wrote a 2 chorder that worked perfectly for drums, bass and guitar with a separate vocalist - I was a drummer back then and learned to play guitar as I was most interested in writing songs. Sometime in the 80s I rewrote the lyrics and that version is the only song I have on YouTube with my vocals and only playing an Eko Ranger I've had since around 1976. But I only recorded that 10 years ago when testing a new microphone, so besides it being unrehearsed the guitar wasn't tuned to standard pitch, so I've not been able to adapt it using BiaB. Thumbs up for the 2 chord song! laugh

#105: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Thanks. This is the first time I post my songs here after using BiaB since I retired in 2016. It's so encouraging to get this kind of feedback, so I dare to post some more. My two chords in this song were G and D7, but in the end I used variations G6 ja D9 to get more jazzy sound.

Hi Arri,

You certainly succeeded really well in your mission.
This is very entertaining to listen to.
The lyrics are great and the development of the arrangement is super.
You held my attention throughout and kept me riding along with you all the way.
Personally, I would have loved it to have been longer.
Now I'll have to try and write a song with two chords. I've never done that.
You've inspired me.

All the very best,
--Noel

Thanks. I was afraid the song goes boring with just two chords, so I made it short - and even variated those two chords G and D7 to G6 and D9 in the end to make it sound a bit different. Good luck with your song writing. I'm anxious to hear how it came out.

Thanks. Yes, making these songs with BiaB and Reaper at my home is great and also proven to be healthy pass time for such a senior (over 70) amateur musician as I, who can't go to gigs anymore and have to make music all by my self. Yes, my 12-string guitar is my favourite: a Taylor LKSM-12 Leo Kottke Special Model made in 1994 in USA. When I was still going to gigs, it was like a half of an orchestra. Also fitts very well to imitate Mexican bajo sexto in tex mex songs.

Cool song, Arri. 12-string and banjo --outstanding results. Yes, a great result with just two chords. I remember jamming with a bunch of guys who thought ehy were the Grateful Dead. We started tuning up to concert A (in the days before these fancy tuners of today) and a jam began. We played like 20 minutes and never left A. This one is just over 2 minutes, yet it is 20 times better.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Yep, you have proved that you only need 2 chords to write a good song, and this is a good song!
Adding G6 and D9 makes it a 4 chord song grin
Regardless I really liked this one.

My goal this weekend is to move just enough each day so that no one pokes me to see if I'm dead or not.

Thanks again. There is debate what is a chord, but some say, that for example G6 and D9 aren't new chords, just variations of the same chord. I found a lot of two chord songs. Here is one list: https://www.guitarbased.com/2-chord-songs/
