Good after noon Boxers.
Annoying problem here. BIAB ver 2012 windows.

I have created a soloist in a part of a song and i want to use the same solo somewhere else in the song. I have tried "copy from / to " and there is a button for soloist in the dialogue but whatever combination i try the solo does not play at the point at which it is inserted? If I try highlighting the bars to copy first there's a message, "there are existing soloist notes in the region you have selected, do you want to delete them?".Either way nothing plays exept the original song, chords, backing etc, NO SOLO.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi DJK,

Welcome to the forums smile

Is the Soloist you want to copy a midi solo or a Realtracks solo? The "Copy from ... to ..." command is only for midi.

Regards,
Noel

Sometimes this does the trick:

Under the Soloist menu, Edit, locate the "Copy Soloist to all Choruses" command.

Hit Play button to regenerate and listen to playback to make sure the solo is invoked over all choruses.

Now use the Bar Settings function to MUTE that soloist at the bars where you don't want it to play, using a Bar Setting at each bar in each Chorus where you want it to come in or be silent.

Hello again.
Seems you could be right though the MIDI soloists are not very good to listen to. Guess I'll have to try and find another way.

Thanks

Hi DJK,

If it is a Realtrack Soloist with which you are working, it's possible to have it play in multiple regions of the song but, to do this, it's necessary to save the solo as a wav file and then edit this wav file using 'copy and paste' in an external DAW. Realband is excellent for this. Once you have the wav file exactly how you'd like it to sound, it's possible to use it to create a 'Performance track'. These tracks were a new feature of BIAB in version 2013.

What I normally do is to create backing tracks in BIAB. I then transfer these tracks to my DAW (I use a combination of Realband and Reaper). Once in my DAW, I then modify the individual tracks as needed, mix them and save them as wav files to be used as backing.

If you have a listen to any of the songs in my signature, you'll hear musical motifs recurring throughout the song. How I achieved this was simply to copy and paste a motif that I liked at relevant locations in the song.

Hope these thoughts help,
Noel

Freeze the solo, render to wave.... copy and paste....

well that would be the method I would take.

However, unless the "solo" is a "signature fill" I would not use the same solo twice. A signature fill is something like the musical hook in the song that instantly identifies the song... such as the sax fill in Baker Street

I generally render everything to audio and move it to my DAW. Once there and the DAW is synced to the same tempo, editing the audio in this manner is a simple job. Mostly though, I don't want to use that same fill twice in a tune.
