Michael 'cut his teeth' touring in the UK and Europe with 'Eyes of Blue' backing pop legends such as Del Shannon, PJ Proby, Johnny Tillotson, and Bobby Vee. 'Eyes of Blue' later became 'Smackee' who were asked to become the the backing band of “soul legends” Percy Sledge, Ann Peebles, and The Marvelettes.

In 1983 Michael was spotted by Rod Allen and Barry Pritchard of hitmakers 'The Fortunes' (Here It comes again - You've got your troubles - The same old feeling - Here comes that rainy day feeling again - Storm in a Teacup - Freedom come, Freedom go - This golden ring - Seasons in the Sun - etc) and asked to join 'The Fortunes' and since then has become the longest serving member in the band's history......

When recently asked what he thought of the new version, Mike's reply was "...I'm finding the program very hard to walk away from. My wife made her point yesterday when my dinner was brought on a tray into my studio... needless to say, I apologized and switched off my Mac."
